What I made from bits, part 3: Beautiful butterfly

It took a lot of sculpting and quite some fun with painting, but here he is.

Behold.

A full size flying Hive Tyrant made from original tail and wings... And a lot of other stuff. He looks pretty much unlike anything ever seen among Tyranid armies, so I decided to call him Lepidofex. Maybe someday he will get stats (yeah, sure).

Exceptional and pretty Hive Tyrant

I guess the best way to begin is to make a list of bits used for that. We have here:

- a Hive Tyrant wings and tail(s)

- a Carnifex scything talons, butt and torso

- a pair of Tyrranofex fleshborer hives

- a maw and head of Haruspex

- a couple of intestines/tentacles/whatever those long things are

And what I did was basically reap and tear until it all fit together in a satisfying manner. The scything talons were put in place where the Carnifex legs should be. I had to cut the base - tail of the Hive Tyrant pretty rough to match the bottom of a Carnifex, from which I previously removed the original tail. On top of that there is a torso - also of a Carnifex - with the fleshborer hives and wings. 

Now it is not possible to match the wings to the torso without cutting them, because they have a special part that matches only a Tyrant's torso. I did it the way visible on the second photo above. 

The hardest part was fitting the maw and head to the torso. It took tremendous amount of cutting, that actually reduced the central part almost by half. I put the additional tentacles (tails and intestines from heavy venom cannons) between the carapace and the head to cover some protruding uglyness that was created in the process.

After this was accomplished I finally could move on to painting. As you can see, the color theme is different than usual in Hive Fleet Shoggoth, That is because the Lepidofex is an unique entity, unlike any other seen in our ranks, as I said before. Remember the guy.

And yes, there is glitter on his wings. This is because he is a BUTTERFLY, and he is PRETTY.  As a pattern I used a photo of an insect known as Inachis io in Poland, Aglais io in the UK,  or more casually, the European peacock pretty much everywhere. Honestly, I'm not completely satisfied with the painting job... Maybe this is because he is a freakin' Tyranid, not a butterfly, and maybe because I just suck at painting sharp contrasts on colorful models.

Dzień dobry wszystkim, to już drugi post dzisiaj - i to bardzo ważny. Oto on, bohater nadchodzącej historii Roju Shoggoth: Lepidofex, lub po prostu...

Wymagał trochę rzeźbienia i był świetnym modelem do malowania. W końcu jest gotowy.

Podziwiajcie.

Pełnowymiarowy, latający Tyran Roju wykonany ze skrzydeł i ogona... Oraz wielu innych elementów pochodzących z innych zestawów. Nie wygląda jak cokolwiek co dotychczas widziano wśród sił Tyranidów więc postanowiłem nadać mu własną nazwę: Lepidofex. Może któregoś dnia będzie miał własne zasady (na pewno).

Wyjątkowy i śliczny Hive Tyrant

Najlepiej zacznę od listy bitsów których użyłem do tego modelu. Proszę bardzo:

- skrzydła i ogon(y) Tyranów Roju

- szpony, tyłek i korpus Carnifexa

- para uli fleshborerów od Tervigona

- paszcza i głowa Haruspexa

- para jelit/macek/cokolwiek to jest

Zasadniczo praca polegała głównie na rozszarpywaniu i cięciu tego wszystkiego tak, by zaczęło do siebie pasować w satysfakcjonujący sposób. Szpony umieściłem w miejscu gdzie Carnifex miałby nogi. Musiałem solidnie pociąć ogon Tyrana by dopasować go do tyłka Carnifexa, któremu uprzednio odciąłem jego oryginalny ogon. Na tym wszystkim mamy korpus - również Carnifexa - do którego przykleiłem ule fleshborerów i skrzydła. 

Nie da się dopasować skrzydeł do korpusu bez pocięcia ich, ponieważ mają specyficzną budowę która łączy się tylko z ciałem Tyrana. Na drugim zdjęciu powyżej widać jak musiałem je podciąć. 

Najtrudniejsze było dopasowanie paszczy i głowy do korpusu. Musiałem praktycznie wyciąć połowę centralnej części modelu. Dodałem macki (ogony i jelita z ciężkich Venom cannonów) pomiędzy pancerzem i głową by zakryć widoczne niedoróbki powstałe w trakcie cięcia.

Kiedy już uporałem się z klejeniem mogłem przejść do malowania. Jak widać, schemat kolorystyczny nie jest typowy dla Roju Shoggoth, ponieważ Lepidofex jest wyjątkowym stworzeniem, niepodobnym do czegokolwiek innego w naszych szeregach, jak już pisałem. Zapamiętajcie tego gościa.

Owszem, na jego skrzydłach jest brokacik. To dlatego, że jest MOTYLKIEM i jest PIĘKNY. Jako wzoru użyłem zdjęcia owada znanego jako Inachis io w Polsce, Aglais io w UK lub po prostu Rusałka pawik. Szczerze mówiąc nie jestem całkiem zadowolony z malowania... Może to dlatego, że to Tyranid a nie motylek, a może dlatego, że nie potrafię dobrze pomalować ostrych kontrastów na kolorowych modelach.
